Book Club Extra: Tough Heroines

bookclubextraheroines

We thought it might be fun to start a series of bookish discussions related to the books I’ve been reading. Each week we’ll be discussing a topic related to one of the books I have reviewed, sharing our thoughts and asking you for yours!

This week I reviewed Veronica Roth’s Insurgent and this week’s discussion point is: Tough Heroines

  1. This is a great idea! I’m at work so I can’t listen, but I like this plan! Something else to make your blog exciting and different!

For my part, I’m glad to see new, tougher heroines popping up. Our young ladies need a new example for their lives!

    • Yay! I am glad you like and if you do listen be sure to drop by and leave your thoughts on our choices and also your choice for best tough heroine! :) I think so as well! :) I want to find some way at some point of incorporating everyone’s responses into the discussions! Not sure how though!

  2. Yay Katniss! I am just watching SNL with Jennifer Lawrence right now. :) I would be dead too if I had to go through the Hunger Games. LOL Another great and thoughtful audio! Some of these books I haven’t read, so I really look forward to discovering these heroines myself!

    • LOL Seriously I have no coordination whatsoever…I could just throw my books at them to distract them and run..very slowly away ;> I keep think I need to read the October Daye series Aidan keeps talking about but still quite a few books on my to be read still! How was the episode of SNL?

    • Thank you!! I really appreciate the feedback. I totally understand at my job they block any sort of streaming media so I can’t listen to audio either! I glad you took the time to listen when you got home! :) BTW I want to incorporate readers responses at some point but I am not sure how yet..I was thinking of telling people the question for the next week and mentioning their thoughts/blogs in the audio! Not sure the best way to do it yet though! :)

  4. What a great discussion. I agree with what you and Aidan say regarding the mental strength of strong female characters. There is nothing so distressing as a female character who has physical strength but lacks self esteem or cow tails to the men in the series (whether or not the male character is a lover). Katniss and Eowyn are probably my two top choices also, but I would add Chess Putnam from the Downside Ghosts series by Stacia Kane. Chess isn’t just physically strong fighting demons, ghosts, and other monsters but she has a strength of will to make the hard decisions in spite of a horrible upbringing and a greater and greater addiction to pills. I think part of her strength is her inherent vulnerability due to the drugs. She doesn’t quite know how to be in a relationship of any kind, she struggles to make friends with women as well as struggles in her romantic relationship. I like that she struggles to be a better person despite the odds. That to me is a strong female character.

I think it would be cool if you could incorporate other readers responses also. It would probably take a lot longer to put something together, because I think it would be more interesting if readers had your discussion to add to. It probably would be somewhat dependent on what program everyone uses also. You make me curious how this could work. LOL

    • I totally agree..it is a pet peeve of mine when a female sacrifices her sense of self in order to fit in or to keep her boyfriend etc..it’s why I never jived with Bella from Twilight! You are making me want to read that series, I am going to go and list it because I love characters like that!

I am not sure how to do it yet, some people might have audio software and others might not..the idea I had would be to perhaps tweet out the question in advance or after, compile the responses and then read them (mentioning of course the blogger and their blog) out and discuss them in either the same book club extra post or separate one….or use audio if anyone is able to do that.

If you have any ideas on how to make it work that would be great or know of some software I could use to get audio responses as well? :) I just think it would be great to make it more interactive somehow!
