Blurb: One choice can transform you–or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves–and herself–while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

Tris’s initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable–and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.

This week I sat down with my husband to record some audio comments about this book. While we try to avoid spoiling this book, please be aware that there are some spoilers for the first book, Divergent.

  1. I loved how the characters really stood out in contrast to their background with the big grey buildings, they looked really big.
This series definitely sounds like it’s getting better. So I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it, however I do hope the world gets explained more in the future books. Great review! :)

  2. It’s so funny you put this up today because I put up a review of Divergent! :D You can find it on my blog and also I do Anya of On Starships and Dragonwings Book Review hop. I really like Tris and Four together, so I’m glad to hear that their relationship continues to grow in book 2. I probably won’t read Insurgent for a few months, but can’t wait to get to it. :D

  3. Pretty much agree with how you broke down everything about the story in the audio! The cliffhanger is a pretty stunning revelation! Love how you drew the characters- even remembered the tattoos! :)

    • It is, it really blew me away and left me wanting more explanation! YAY! I had to write down where the tattoo’s went because I wasn’t sure of them all..I know four has one for each faction on his back right?

  4. Another great review guys! I thoroughly enjoyed this series though I did prefer book 1 to it,s sequel. You both made a good point about the need to split society into factions being something you can either buy into or not. In this instance it didn’t phase me but I’ve had other books give me that impression. Thanks for sharing the stirring conversation :)

  5. Love your multimedia review! Tris and Four look quite striking there against the Chicago backdrop. You bring up some good points in your review, and hopefully Roth will delve more into the world building with Divergent #3.
I encourage you to check out the audiobooks sometime. Emma Galvin is amazing!

    • Thank you! It was fun to draw and I always like to try something new! I am hoping so as well..and I need to listen to the audio book then..I am still wanting to listen to the audiobooks for Daughter of Smoke and Bone/Days of Blood and Starlight!
